Linkedin – Top 10 Tips for your profile

Let’s face it … we are constantly on our laptops, mobile phones and tablets checking out what’s happening in the world of business. Linkedin is a key vehicle to make things happen in your world.

However, many people are not using their Linkedin profile to showcase their experience and abilities and are therefore missing out on new business opportunities and promotions.

 

Here are 10 tips to improve your profile:

1. Craft an informative profile headline

The profile lets people know really quick who you are, what you do and what you want.

2. Display a professional photo

Use a photo that makes you look good.

Don’t use anything that could be misunderstood (silly hat, photo too small, blurred image etc)

3. Tell people about your education

If you have got, flaunt it whether that be another course or a qualification

4. Make and craft a professional summary statement

Be concise and clear about your goals, work and qualifications

5. Make sure you get found

Fill in the specialities section with keywords or phrases that you think a recruiter or HR person will use when they look for you.

6. Update your status regularly

Preferably on a weekly basis update any news that you have or events you are attending

7. Join Groups – Display group badges and find people who have similar interests

8. Recommendations – Gather recommendations for each area on your profile, ie education, each work experience

9. Unique URL – Claim a unique profile, for example www.linkedin.com/in/terryobrien

10. Make your profile public – this allows other people to find you.
